Update – Website, Sketchbook, Luminous Washi Lanterns, Chase Center Presentation
Hi everyone, Marina here with Danny for some website updates!
.
.
.
.
First of all, you may have noticed that Danny has updated the layout of the site a bit! Namely, the two menu bars are now one menu, located on the left side of the site. Artwork can also be accessed from the top header menu. Why the change Danny?
.
It’s mostly “under the hood” type stuff. Dealing with having your main page in an iframe was more hassle than it was worth. Search engines will link to wordpress pages, not to the main site… Artwork images can utilize lightbox, instead of-

Short version Danny, short version.

Mmm fine. Moving on, we have some new sketchbook pages from Danny’s second book.
.
.
I’m trying to draw more consistently in my sketchbook now, so hopefully I can do a sketchbook update once a month from here on out.
.
.
Well, we don’t expect you to actually keep to schedules you set, so no worries.

Next is a new video! “Luminous Washi Lanterns.” Can you tell us a bit about this Danny?
.
.
Luminous Paper Lanterns was designed by students from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Wintersession 2011 Architectonics studio with their instructor Aki Ishida, an architect based in NYC. It was installed at Japan Society’s earth quake relief event CONCERT FOR JAPAN on April 9, 2011. Inspired by traditional mulberry paper lanterns typically found at Japanese festivals, this collective piece grew over the course of the day as the visitors wrote earthquake relief wishes on paper and contribute to the making of the work. Wow, that sounds coo- hey wait, you just copy pasted that description from your youtube page.
.
.
It explains it well, so no reason to write anything new.
.
.
There’s also a new animation up! “Architectural Sketch: Chase Center Presentation.” What can you tell us about this one?
.
.
Final presentation video for Architectural Sketch class, RISD Wintersession 2009.
Assignment: Create a series of architectural drawings:
-General site plan of the RISD campus from 15 west to the quad
-Front elevation drawing of the Chase Center
-2 floor plans of the Chase Center
-2 cross sections of the Chase Center
-3 views from within the Chase Center
Architectural drawings “de-construct” buildings and space to give the viewer a certain understanding of a structure as well as give a sense of the environment surrounding it. Using animation, I attempt to “re-construct” the space using the de-constructed drawings to give a unique comparison between architectural drawings and the “sense” of what it’s like to personally experience that space: moving through three dimensional space, objects blocking out your field of vision, shadow, texture, sound and the time necessary to walk from point a to point b.
Don’t keep copy pasting video descriptions…

Don’t just copy paste your responses!!!

On a final note, Danny has added facebook comments to the site! Comments made using the facebook box will show up in your facebook, and any replies to that comment will automatically update and show up on the site!
.
This is a feature facebook recently added, so it’s still a bit buggy. Because of that, comments may show up in black. There’s a temporary fix where if you log out, the comments show in white correctly. These are all problems on facebook’s end, so I’ll let everyone know once facebook fixes this.
Danny will soon be giving a blog entry on some concerts and events he went to in April. Please look forward to it! Until next time~
