Danny’s Picks – Kigeki (Comedy)
Hello everyone to another Danny’s Picks. Today I’ll be sharing an old favorite of mine, a short anime film called 喜劇 (Kigeki) or “Comedy.” It was produced in 2002 by Studio 4°C, directed by Kazuto Nakazawa and features the music of Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria“. It was produced and bundled on the Region 2 release of Deep Imagination, a DVD of a collection of films under the Sweat Punch series.
So many of you know by now how much I love short films, especially ones that are so unique and artistically done! Kigeki is a wonderful film on so many levels – from overall direction/pacing to exact animation timing, from visuals to music, from meaning to story. It really left a lasting impression on me and I think much of my animation sense can be derived from this film!
