Hello everyone to the last pick of 2011~!  Today I’ve got an amazing Touhou doujin (fan made) anime titled “Gensou Mangekyou ~The Memories of Phantasm~” (Fantasy Kaleidoscope).  It was released in 2011 at the c80 Comiket between August 12-14, 2011, at the Tokyo Big Sight venue.

The Touhou Project (東方Project lit. Eastern Project), also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a Japanese dōjin game series focused on bullet hell shooters made by the one-man developer Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member, known as ZUN, is responsible for all the graphics, music, and programming for the most part.

The song title is used in the opening is 「色は匂へど　散りぬるを」 “Iro wa Nioedo, Chirinuru wo” (Though the Scent Lingers, the Flower Scattered).  It is sung by Senya and adapted from a song in Mountain of Faith: 「 神々が恋した幻想郷」(The Gensokyo the Gods Loved).

As you may know, I have a soft spot for independently produced anime and this is no exception.  Throw in the fact that it’s Touhou and you’ve got an instant favorite of mine!  Do keep in mind that the original animation did NOT have voice acting.  The version you see here is a fan dub and sub.  All in all, pretty epic way to ring in 2012.  Happy new year everyone~!
