Hello everyone to this week’s Danny’s Picks!  This week we have a behind the scenes video showing some of the process in producing the anime “One Piece.”  It also touches on the voice actors/actresses for Dragonball as well!  (They’re both made at Toei Animation)  It’s all in Japanese so my apologies to non-Japanese speaking fans, but you should be able to follow along anyway.

OOOoooooOOOOOooooOOOOoooHHHHHHhhhhh~!!!! Anyone who knows me, knows my love for Dragonball is matched only by my love for One Piece!!! But not only that, the animator in me gives me a unique love for the process of making them as well.  I hope these videos share a bit of that love with you all~!  And I also have to say I’ve always found it epically suitable that Goku’s best friend is the same voice as Luffy!

Hello everyone to Danny’s Picks!  Today I’ve got a very nice short film called “Kagami no Genon” which translates to “Mirror’s Fundamental Tone” or “sound/phantasma/mirror.”  Both the animation and music is by Kojiro Shishido.  It won the excellence prize in the 10th CG-ARTS Student CG Contest, and was a selection in the 17th DoGA CG Animation Contest.

Kagami no Genon features some beautiful effects, particularly the light elements.  In fact, you could say that this is a film about light and the reflection of it; you realize that the “mirror” is the world around us and through it, one can begin to reflect inside oneself.  It’s a short, almost vague film, but offers tremendous room for self reflection.

Hey everyone!  I’ve got a very interesting movie to share with you all today, La Main des Maitres.  This was actually made by three students from the Georges Melies School in France - Clement Delatre, Adrien CaYuS Toupet and Looky.  It was a VES Nominee in Outstanding Effects in a Student Project in 2009.

Short and succinct, the film does a wonderful job of dramatizing the role of knowledge as power in social revolution.  But besides the story, the animation quality is excellent!  I particularly enjoyed their light effects, such as when the main characters ran into rays of light at 00:21.  The general CG style also gave this a very Production I.G. feel, particularly when the mechanical hands started printing the newspapers at 00:43.  Overall, an excellent piece of short film, I hope you enjoyed it!

Hello everyone to this week’s Danny’s Picks.  Today we have a video featuring the voice actors/actresses of The Simpsons!  One of the things the Simpsons is known for is having voice actors/actresses that play multiple characters.  The first video is a cutup of all the voice actors doing their voices, while the other videos is the show in it’s entirety.

The Simpsons has six main cast members: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer. Castellaneta performs Homer Simpson, Grampa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, Barney Gumble and other adult, male characters. Julie Kavner speaks the voices of Marge Simpson and Patty and Selma, as well as several minor characters… Cartwright performs the voices of Bart Simpson, Nelson Muntz, Ralph Wiggum and other children. Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson, is the only cast member who regularly voices only one character, although she occasionally plays other episodic characters. Azaria and Shearer do not voice members of the title family, but play a majority of the male townspeople. Azaria, who has been a part of the Simpsons regular voice cast since the second season, voices recurring characters such as Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and Professor Frink. Shearer provides voices for Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy and Dr. Hibbert.

Hey everyone, we’re here today with another blog post and I hear today’s concert is a very special one!

.

.

Awwww yeahhhhh L’Arc~en~Cielllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll~!!!

.

.

That’s right, today’s blog features the one and only L’Arc~en~Ciel at the arena in Madison Square Garden!  What can you tell us about this concert Danny?

.

L’Arc~en~Ciel is such an important band to me and to so many people it’s only fitting that they’re the first jrock band to headline at Madison Square Garden.  This world tour is in celebration of their new album “Butterfly” as well as their 20th anniversary!  It was truly an honor to see such a legendary band perform on such a legendary stage.

Before we get started with all the videos, let’s take a look at the pics Danny shot before the show started.

.

.

It was really exciting walking into Madison Square Garden.  Being a New Yorker, I’ve walked past the place so many times but I’ve never had the opportunity to experience a concert in the venue!

.

So what is this first video about?

.

.

I interviewed fans outside with Roger, the writer of Fixer and head of Tainted Reality.  We also gave a little review right after the concert as well, take a look!

Hey everyone!  For today’s pick I have a compilation video of many sakuga fight scenes!!!  It’s pretty epic and intense, so let’s get right to it!

.

.

Oooohhhhhh Man I love fight scenes!!!!  This video is packed with different anime so I won’t name them all, although I’m sure you’ll recognize at least a few!  Fight scenes are an excellent medium to really showcase an animator’s talent and this video really proves that!  OOOOOOHHHHH I’M ALL FIRED UP~!!!!!

Hey everyone, today we’ve got some more amazing sakuga for you.  This time around it’s from the classic 1988 anime film, “Akira.”  Akira (アキラ) is a 1988 Japanese animated cyberpunk science fiction film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto.  It’s based on the original manga by Otomo.

Being a feature length film, the animation quality is obviously higher than a standard television series, but this movie really took things to a new level.  First, note that this video actually lists the animator’s name for each scene in the bottom left corner.  And remember, besides the outstanding character animation, this was done in a time where animator’s not only hand drew all the crumbling rocks, smoke and shattering glass, but it was all done via cells!  Truly a landmark pillar of japanese animation.

Hello everyone , today I’ve got a video featuring the seiyuus of One Piece!  It features a recording session from movie 9, Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Cherry Blossom. It is the second film to focus on Chopper, as it is a retelling of the Drum Island storyline from the manga. It features Franky, Nico Robin, and the Thousand Sunny, who weren’t present in the original version.

As this film features Chopper, the video focuses particularly on Ikue Ōtani (大谷 育江).  Who besides Chopper, is most known as the voice of Pikachu from Pokemon.  She delivers quite an emotional performance here!
