The ouroboros is the ancient symbol of a snake or dragon eating its own tail, representing the cycle of destruction and rebirth. This piece depicts this concept as a goddess deity, holding the endless cycles of human death and rebirth, in her hands. She is surrounded by other symbols linked to this idea: her clothes feature a snake-skin pattern, butterflies represent metamorphosis and change, waterlilies symbolize rebirth because they close at night and come back every morning, and cherry blossoms symboloize the ephemeralness of life. Her tattoos are also based on mandalas, spiritual representations of universes and cycles of creation itself.
